Why YOU should do band! - for students and parents/guardians

There are a multitude of reasons to join band - at any age! Ask around in your family and adults you know: Did you do band? And you may be surprised by the answers. We often hear: "yes, for a while, but then I dropped ... I wish, I would've stayed." - "No, I never did, but I wish I would have!" - "My friends took band - I wish I would have, too" ...

Band is fun. Band is making friends. Band is learning on a new level. Band is physical activity. Band is social. Band is math. Band is history. Band is literature. Band ...

Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, one of the leading music educators in the nation, wrote many articles about "Why band? Why music?" Read his profound arguments here:  Dr. Tim

Being in band does not mean that you will be the next Virtuoso on your instrument (though may be you will be!!), but it will help and support you to achieve your goals in life: research shows that people who are learning and are involved in music will benefit in others ways as well. Academically, those students in band and choir  score better on tests, are better problem solvers, excel in collaboration skills, and their language skills are higher than in non-music kids. For a more detailed article on the benefits of music education, read this article: The Benefits of Music Education (PBS).

In addition, students will be leaders! Every child in band has the opportunity to find their passion, their creativity, and their leadership skills. It is a win-win.
